A regional publisher (longtime best customer of mine) has just put out a book featuring my scenic photography of Maine places. While I'm not the author, I guess I qualify as the 'sole photographer'. The book is a compilation of over 15 years' worth of a popular magazine feature that consists of a double page spread with some facts and lore about the location. Readers would then send in letters with their interesting stories relating to the place, with the best letters being printed in the magazine. The publisher loves the reader feedback and now hopes it will make a popular book. smile.gif smile.gif

Beautiful book Kevin!

I was just in Rockport last month at the Maine Media Workshop. I fell in love with the area and hope to take another class there next year and also hope to visit the area with my husband and daughter I checked out your website and enjoyed all your Maine photos--as well as the rest. Wish I had 15 years to photograph that area- it's really inspirational!

Best of luck with the book!

Thank you both for your kind words.

Marianne,

The Maine Photographic Workshops (now Maine Media Workshops) was where I first got inspired in photography by attending their evening programs. They were open to the public and given by the teachers in residence on any given week. Some favorites that come to mind were William Allard, Jay Maisel, and most especially Ernst Haas. I was blessed to have gotten a glimpse of what the profession was like from many people who excelled at it back when it was much different than it is today. I hope the folks at MMW can recapture some of the excitement that was present way back when. Your post prompted me to review the Ernst Haas website http://www.ernst-haas.com/index2.html . He deserved the fame that he received and his photographs continue to inspire. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks, Darrell. Just checked Amazon and it was there! They have it as a Paperback, at a discounted price, and they list a few used copies. I've asked the publisher if they could contact Amazon and correct the listing to Hardcover and about this lower price. Perhaps that's normal. This is the first time I've had any interest in getting books sold (royaltie$), and there is so much to learn.

Really nice images, Kevin. I sent the link to my friend who lives on Mount Dessert Island.

Thanks, Edo. I still haven't gotten used to having a book out. The Christmas gift season is behind us, but the tourist season here in Maine lies ahead. With that in mind, I'm thinking about doing some promotional activities this Summer. Book signings don't sound like fun to me, but I'm willing to give them a go. Your sending a link is much appreciated. Mt Desert Island (Dessert sounds better) is the most scenic area of Maine. My family & I enjoy frequent visits there despite the crowds.
